The Simpson Bay Lagoon, which is one of the largest inland lagoons in the Caribbean, provides vital habitat for marine life. It is also a hub for the maritime industry, serving as a safe haven, international destination, and home to thousands of boats and associated businesses. However, for many reasons, the Simpson Bay Lagoon has experienced poor and declining water quality over the years. In 2011, in partnership with marine industries, EPIC launched the sewage pumpout boat Slurpy to fill the need for proper sewage disposal for boats. Boaters can now use these services, for a nominal charge, to properly dispose of their sewage and conveniently stay at anchor within the Lagoon. Working three days per week during high season, Slurpy can be reached via VHF Channel 10 or by email at EPICsxm@epicislands.org for availability.
As of May 2021, Slurpy is temporarily unavailable due to coronavirus restrictions. Stay tuned for more updates.
