Our EPIC team is passionate about the unique success realized through the celebration and storytelling efforts of the Haitian communities involved in Black-capped Petrel conservation.
The celebration of the petrel and its conservation in Boukan Chat, Haiti is exemplified through the annual Diablotin Festival. For this event, local school groups lead an all-species parade, including music and banners, through town to the local soccer pitch where the men’s soccer club, outfitted in uniforms sporting a petrel logo, play against neighboring rivals. This is also the traditional first showing of the annual petrel film series with our partners at SoulCraft Allstars. EPIC, its partners, and the families in Boukan Chat participate annually in this celebration of the year’s accomplishments, typically held in the spring.
A beautification program also connects sustainable agriculture to petrel conservation through the creation of murals by three different local artists that depict the beauty of healthy petrels and petrel habitat.
