What We Do

What We Do

Protecting the Caribbean environment through
research and community-based action.

The mission is achieved through the conservation tools we call S.E.A.S. — Science, Education, Advocacy and Stewardship

Science

Research is at the heart of what we do. Our environmental science, research, and monitoring efforts provide valuable data that is crucial to making informed, science-based decisions. EPIC specializes in researching threatened and endangered species and habitats, and our work has resulted in more than 100 publications. Improving our understanding of the Caribbean environment is the first step towards learning what needs to be done to preserve its integrity.

Education

Interactive, hands-on, and field based education for all ages has reached more than 25,000 people, increasing knowledge and inspiring stewardship, sustainable actions, and conservation leadership.

Advocacy

Promoting and advocating for sound policy, based on scientific data, and resulting findings, is accomplished through multi-channel sharing with decision-makers. EPIC has influenced the designation of Important Bird Areas, and had our data and information incorporated into Marine Protected Area plans and legislation to protect nature.

Stewardship

EPIC’s community-based programs are actively engaging local community members in stewardship activities such as removing exotic invasive species, planting trees, farming sustainably, and removing litter. These ongoing strategies applied on a local level, result in tangible improvements to the environment and economy.

Help continue our work in the Caribbean
