EPIC Sunset Kayak Raises Funds for Cleaner Lagoon
Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten - Adults and children enjoyed a sunset kayak Saturday evening, 7 November, at a fundraising event for Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC). The event had been cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions earlier in the year then more recently postponed from the planned Halloween full moon kayak due to a small craft advisory, so it was exciting for the group of families and friends to finally get out on the water while social distancing. Participants paddled out of Simpson Bay, enjoying the beautiful sunset lighting up the clouds.
The event was organized to raise money to repair the EPIC sewage-pumpout boat Slurpy that was damaged during Hurricane Irma. Prior to Irma, Slurpy offered pumpout services to boats in Simpson Bay Lagoon and EPIC continues to seek grants and sponsorship to resume those services. Support for the venture came from Tri-sport, who generously provided their kayaks for free to boost EPIC’s fundraising effort.
