The Smooth Waves Around Green Island | By - Sherrel Charles

Photo Location: Antigua and Barbuda

Photo Description: This photo was taken during our Antiguan Racer Census. As an ecologist who prefers the terrestrial side of ecology, I am always fascinated by the fauna and lush vegetation of our islands. On this day, however, as I strolled toward the beach, I noticed the waves gently rolling onto the shore and wondered how they would look from above. When I lifted Cashew (my drone) into the air, I was immediately captivated by the mesmerizing patterns of the water. From that perspective, I could truly appreciate why Green Island, along with many of our offshore islands, is so popular for yachting, sailing, and swimming. The turquoise waters, framed by lush greenery, were magical- almost convincing me to explore the marine side of my career. Moments like this give even more reason to protect these islands, safeguarding their beauty and function for nature and future generations.
