Photo Location: North Creek on Grand Turk

Photo Description: Birding in the North Creek area on Grand Turk often reveals a surprise or three. Isolated and rarely accessed by birders, the area enables a photographer to find the usual shore, sea and wading birds. But on this day in June 2025, I spied a few small birds perched on a branch. They looked a bit bedraggled on their perch. They were there over visits on several days always on the same branch. Only later when I used the Merlin App from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to identify them did I learn that they were barn swallows on their migration north for the summer breeding season. A rare find on a spot on Grand Turk that invites quiet exploration of nature’s wonders.
