2024 EPIC IMPACT - A landmark development in EPIC’s seabird conservation is the funding secured through the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Settlement. The catastrophic 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico impacted migratory seabirds that traverse the Caribbean, potentially leaving long-lasting ecological scars. Under the settlement, EPIC will receive ~$700,000 over five years to restore critical seabird habitats in the Grenadines. These funds will support invasive species eradication, colony monitoring, and the preservation of essential nesting areas. This project began in late 2024 with the hiring of Project Coordinator Allanson Cruickshanks who can be reached at acruickshank@epicislands.org.
